Do I have to provide my own guitar?
No. I have guitars for the students to use in class. In fact, if you want to bring your guitar in, ask me first because there is very limited storage space in the guitar classroom. I do suggest that you have a guitar at home to practice on if possible (especially for advanced students), but if you do not have one and need practice time outside of class, you may practice in the Guitar Room before school on select days (make sure you get a pass from me).
What books will we be using?
Beginning Guitar – Essential Elements for Guitar Book 1
Advanced Guitar – Jerry Snyder Guitar School, Method Books 1 and 2
Both classes will also use supplementary material.
Do I have to learn to read music?
Yes. Not only does the ability to read music make learning many songs easier, it also helps in understanding the fundamental nature of music and the theory behind how it works. It is the primary way that trained musicians communicate with one another.
Do I have to practice at home?
I highly suggest that Advanced Guitar students practice either at home or at the before-school practice sessions a couple times a week (more if you are really serious about guitar). I also recommend at home or before-school practice for the beginning students, especially those who are struggling or are motivated to get ahead.
May I rent or borrow a Raa Guitar?
I'm afraid the limited number of guitars and the fragile condition of many of them does not allow me to let students bring a guitar home. Decent, inexpensive guitars may be purchased from The Guitar Center, Music Masters, or Playground Music in Tallahassee.
